TAC To Celebrate 65 Years Of Supporting Youth & Sports Locally

Stay tuned to this page and learn more about the 2007-08 celebration year of the Tacoma Athletic Commission. It’s our 65th Anniversary and we want to involve you.

The TAC has high hopes and big plans for our year-long calendar of sports events and activities saluting the past, the present and the future. We expect to involve all of you but, in particular, the athletes, coaches, parents, grandparents, friends and families of those involved in sports in Tacoma-Pierce County.

We aim to increase our membership by 365, one for every day of the year. We will continue three of our most successful
events – the annual Golden Gloves Feb. 22-23, 2008 in the Tacoma Dome (it will be our 60th annual, 2nd oldest amateur boxing tournament of its kind in the USA), our 4th annual Banquet of Champions (June 5, 2008) – a salute to current amateur
athletes and the induction ceremonies for the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame, and the annual Ken Still Classic (July 21, 2008) – a fun-filled golf tournament which expects to take on celebrity status this year.

We are currently studying a variety of other events and will be announcing our agenda for those in the near future. They range from revival of the Soap Box Derby to a Sports-Go-Round concept which would embrace a wide variety of competitions along with a festival of sports, complete with entertainment, celebrities, instruction clinics, food and fun. Who knows what else?

Yes, 2007-2008 will be an exciting chapter in the TAC’s 65-year history of support for our youth and their sports.

If you have any ideas for events or tributes that you want to suggest to the TAC, do it now by contacting Doug McArthur at dougmc@nventure.com.

Or call him at the TAC office, 253-759-1124.
