ALEX BENZEGALA

Alex Benzegala earned the 2010 Clay Huntington Sports Communications Scholarship by demonstrating an exceptional mix of talent in the classroom, on the track and behind the microphone. He brought a passion for sports and broadcasting to Peninsula High School that served him well in calling play-by-play action for Peninsula Seahawks basketball and football games on the school's radio station, KGHP.

Having broadcast more than 75 Peninsula games during four years, Alex was the voice of Seahawks sports. He also contributed to the award-winning school newspaper, the Peninsula Outlook, for three years as a sportswriter and editor.

"Alex loves to prepare for a sports broadcast as much as he loves to broadcast the actual event," said Leland Smith, a Communications Department teacher. "His commitment to preparation and attention to detail is remarkable."

Alex lettered in track all four years and competed at the 2009 State Championships in the 4x400 meter relay. He has also acted in several school plays and found time to maintain Honor Roll standing with a 3.79 grade-point average.

Benzegala plans to pursue a communications degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and hopes to become a professional sportscaster.
