Danny Vaughn
Danny Vaughn captained his Wilson High School and University of Washington soccer teams before taking his game to the next level. His professional career included stints with the Detroit Express, Memphis Rogues, Calgary Boomers and Jacksonville Teamen of the North American Soccer League and Detroit Express of the American Soccer League. He also played indoor seasons in Detroit, Calgary and Jacksonville.
A 1974 Wilson high grad, the forward/defender played for coach Ken Moe and was honored as Wilson's first team captain his senior year after the school instituted varsity soccer.
At UW, in addition to being team captain, he was a four-year letterman and earned all-conference, most inspirational and most valuable player awards while establishing single season and career goal-scoring records. He scored 15 goals as a senior and 11 as a junior, leading the team to 14-2-1 and 16-5-2 records, respectively.
Vaughn was drafted in the first round of the 1978 NASL draft by Detroit and played nine seasons of professional soccer, six outdoor and three indoor.
At the professional level he competed against such international stars as Carlos Alberto, Franz Beckenbauer, George Best, Johan Cryuff and Giorgio Chinaglia. Other Tacoma players in the league included Mark Peterson, Jeff Stock, Jeff Durgan, Cliff Brown and Leif Reidahl.
Vaughn was born Sept. 7, 1956 in Tacoma and today resides in the North End with his wife Barb. He has two children Kali and Eric, and is Regional Sales Manager for Anue Systems. His mother, Audrey Vaughn, played second base for the 1945-46 Washington state fastpitch champion Lincoln Electric team. His father, Tex Vaughn, was instrumental in the start of junior soccer in Tacoma.
