Elli Maulding
Born June 27, 1974, Elli Maulding rose to the highest levels of one of the most beloved Olympic sporting events - gymnastics - during the 1980s and '90s.
As a club gymnast with Puget Sound School of Gymnastics, Maulding eventually earned her way onto the roster of USA Gymnastics. That allowed her to compete in the U.S. Olympic Sports Festival as a member of the North squad.
An Elite gymnast, Maulding earned her spot on USA Gymastics with a 13th-place all-around finish at the 1987 U.S. Championships. In addition, she was the 1987 Elite National beam champion.
While her high school successes at Puyallup High never approached her national accolades, Maulding still advanced to the state meet all three years as a Viking, from 1991-93. As a senior, she placed third in the state on the balance beam.
In addition, Maulding played for the Puyallup volleyball team in 1992 and 1993, earning second-team all-league setter honors as a senior.
In 2004, Maulding turned her attention to running in a major way, training for and competing in the Capital City Marathon. Her time of 3 hours, 36 minutes qualified her for the Boston Marathon.
Maulding went on to attend the University of Washington and is now a fourth-grade teacher in the Sumner School District.
