Evan Martinec
Born May 6, 1981, Tacoma's Evan Martinec followed up a stellar high school swimming career at Wilson High by becoming one of the best LSU has ever had.
From the moment Martinec arrived on campus at Wilson, he was a leader. A four-year team captain for the Rams, Martinec led a Wilson resurgence the likes of which hadn't been seen since the Dick Hannula era. The Rams won three state championships while Martinec was there.
Martinec won the High Point Award at the state championship meet his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He still holds both the district and state records in the 100 backstroke, and is the district record-holder in the 100 butterfly.
But Martinec wasn't through setting records when he left Pierce County.
Martinec still holds LSU school records in both the 100 (46.23 seconds) and 200 backstrokes (1:44.36).
Martinec also still owns LSU's last SEC individual championship - from 2004 in the 100 back. His nine All-America honors are the third-highest total in school history. He competed at the NCAA Championships all four years of his career, with his highest finish being fourth in the 100m backstroke at the 2004 NCAA Championships.
