Jan Wolcott
Jan Wolcott joined the Western Washington Officials Association for football and basketball in 1964-65 after completing college at St. Martin's in Lacey. Forty-five years later, he still works games.
Born March 25, 1941 in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Wolcott joined the Western Washington Football Association in 1965 and the Basketball Association in December of 1965. He officiated high school varsity football from 1966-2002 and small college football games from 1972-1995. In basketball he worked high school varsity games from 1968-2000 and from 1970-1995 he worked small college basketball games as well. Jan also officiated at the freshman/JV level in the Pac-10 from 1983-87. Jan is still an active official in both organizations.
Over the years he has worked three state championship football games, three state football semifinals and three state basketball tournaments. He has also been the assigning secretary for the Western Washington Football Officials Association since 1978. In 1997, Wolcott was honored with the Washington Officials Association Meritorious Service Award.
Wolcott played prep basketball and football at White River High School, graduating in 1959. He then played baseball at St. Martin's College, graduating from the Lacey school in 1964. He continued to play recreation league basketball for 25 years, all the while getting involved in men's slowpitch.
Wolcott has played shortstop, second base and third base during his slowpitch career. He played for Emry Motors from 1965-72, in church league from 1973-80, and for RAX from 1981-90. He got his start in senior softball in 1991 and continues playing to this day. Not only did Wolcott play, he also served as coach and/or manager for most all of these teams.
An employee with the Pierce County Parks & Recreation Department for over 35 years starting as Superintendent of Recreation and ending as Director of Parks and Recreation, he was a driving force behind the Pierce County Foothills Trail. Wolcott retired in 2005.
