Emerald Ridge High School
It didn’t come easy but Jennifer Anderson of Emerald Ridge “wrestled” away top honors in the TAC’s annual Female Athlete of the Year sweepstakes. The competition among an outstanding group of Female athletes was so keen it took an undefeated season and a state championship for Jennifer to claim the title. With a 4.0 GPA and a 35-0 wrestling record, Anderson became the first wrestling champion in school history. She was team captain at Emerald Ridge where she earned Athlete of the Week recognition by the Seattle Times and advanced to the National high school tournament. In national competition during the summer, she helped her Washington team to 3rd place nationally. Enroute to state and national competition, Jennifer led her team to league and regional championships and became a member of the 2011 WIAA State Academic Champions. She was Cross-Country team captain as well, a member of the National Honor Society and her school’s yearbook staff. That gaudy GPA came despite taking advanced level classes such as AP calculus and AP chemistry. For three years she has been a Young life leader for junior high students and a camp counselor, volunteered as a Hunger Buster (canned food drive for the needy) and raised money at Tacoma Rainiers games for schools. She also collected donated books for the library. Next time you think how busy you are, compare your schedule to that of our TAC Female Athlete of the Year, Jennifer Anderson of Emerald Ridge.
