Raigan Barrett - basketball and softball
    Rogers High School

Raigan Barrett enjoyed a magical athletic career as a basketball and softball player at Governor Rogers High School in Puyallup. She is an incredible athlete and competitor. Through hard work, determination, and a commitment to excellence, Raigan has worked hard to be an MVP in both softball and basketball for two years in a row. Raigan coach wrote, "She is an excellent teammate, captain, and leader both on and off the court/field."

In basketball, Raigan ranks as the all-time leading scorer in Rogers High School history and scored almost 2000 points during her career. Recognized as a two-time SPSL MVP during her junior and senior years, Raigan was simply the best female basketball player in the area. Beyond her league accomplishments, she earned All-Area second-team her freshman and sophomore years. As a junior, earned All-Area first-team, the Tacoma Athletic Commission Co-Player of the year, and received a place on the South Sound all Area All-Star team her junior and senior years.

In softball, Raigan will attend the University of Washington on a Softball Scholarship in the fall. She was a first-team performer on the SPSL team during her 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. As a Freshman, she earned All-Area Second Team and first-team sophomore and junior years. Also, the state basketball coaches named her to the all-state first-team sophomore year. The Tacoma Athletic Commission selected Raigan as Co-Player of the year during her junior year and was ranked by Flo-Softball and Extra Innings Softball as a top 35 player in the country.
Raigan coach writes, "Raigan has been an incredible captain organizing offseason workouts, fall league, and team-building opportunities. She has taken on many offseason coaching duties as well. Raigan is a role model for the younger girls who are at our games and spent hours serving them both on and off the court.

Raigan, and teammates, also reached out to a new player last year, who had very little family support, and saw her through the entire clearing process (took her to the doctor, the concussion screening, and the athletic director) to get cleared. Furthermore, they adopted her into the Ram Family. Raigan is a true servant leader, and she has done an incredible job creating a legacy for future Rams to follow."

What makes Raigan unique is her desire to compete at a high level and do whatever is necessary for her preparation to find a way to win. She is among few athletes that understand that confidence and development are outside of the regular practice. She spends countless hours lifting, training, doing extra repetitions, and workouts to perfect her skills. "What makes her rare is her ability to do this in two sports and have a humble heart that continues to strive for excellence." Raigan could have "specialized" and picked one sport, but she refused to believe that she had to choose. There are many sacrifices that she had to make to excel in two high profile activities, but for her, because she loves basketball and softball so much, the "sacrifices" went unnoticed. Competing and working to be the best student-athletes is just who Raigan is; she wouldn't have it any other way. As a teammate, she is encouraging and inspiring, working to bring those around her to achieve greatness as well.

It is with great honor that the Tacoma Athletic Commission recognizes Raigan Barrett as the 2020 "Sis" Names Female Athlete of the Year for Tacoma and Pierce County.
