Michael Schwartze
Wilson High School

Michael Schwartze has a long list of sterling attributes related to his education and extracurricular activities at Tacoma’s Wilson High School. But it is his work on a life-long passion that was even more meaningful to his candidacy for the Clay Huntington Sports Communications Scholarship.

Michael has earned varsity letters as a member of the Wilson cross country and soccer teams. And, he has earned National Honor Society recognition in the classroom. But what he gets most excited about is baseball, especially writing about baseball.

Michael is a co-founder and contributing writer for MLB Dirt ( He writes several articles a month, largely focusing on major league prospects.

Despite his athletics commitments and several volunteer and part-time jobs, Michael was named a Superintendent’s Scholar for maintaining a 3.8+ cumulative grade-point average throughout all four years of high school. He earned outstanding scholastic athlete awards for maintaining a 3.5 or better GPA during all seven of his varsity sports seasons in his career.

Along with school sports, Michael also plays in the Sparta soccer organization as a defender in the top league in the state. He has also worked as a youth soccer referee since 2008.

Michael has decided to attend Seattle University this fall. He would eventually like to be a Major League Baseball beat reporter and has already had discussions about contributing to Seattle University radio broadcasts. Keep your ear to the dial!
