2020 Clint Names Male Multi-Sport Excellence Award

Nolan Casey - Peninsula - Wrestling and Football

Nolan Casey, of Peninsula High School, has been chosen as the 2020 Clint Names Male Multi-Sports Athlete. His accomplishments on the wrestling mat and the football field are genuinely outstanding. His wrestling coach writes, "Nolan has demonstrated leadership beyond his years while at Peninsula. His work ethic, humility, and tenacity make him the unique young adult student-athlete he is. Nolan's ability to encourage, lead and demonstrate a positive even-keeled approach to our wrestling program will have lasting effects on our younger athletes for years to come."

In football, Nolan led the Seahawks to a league championship and a trip to State. As a defensive standout, Coach Filkins writes, "Nolan may not have been the biggest, fastest or strongest kid on the field but shaped himself into the most dominant defensive player in our league. He earned the South Sound Conference Defensive MVP Award and was a terrific Captain for us. We could not have won our league and made it back to State without his play and leadership. His strong character created respect for him amongst the coaches and players."

As a senior, Nolan won the 3A State Championship at 160 pounds. His 38-5 record allowed him to capture the South Sound Conference League Championship as well as the champion of Region four. In the state championship match, he posted a convincing championship performance in 3A, beating Snohomish's Ryan Cote on a 14-0 decision. Nolan's wrestling coach said, "Nolan has approached every day as an opportunity to get better and lead from the front. His actions have spoken far louder than his words his past four years. Nolan has cemented himself as a champion in our school, and along the way, his goals never wavered. Winning a state championship has been a goal since entering high school, and his younger teammates were fortunate to see how his daily preparations, actions, and demeanor allowed him to achieve his goal."

Nolan Casey comes from a family with six children. He is unique among his siblings in his approach to adversity, success, and academics. As an accomplished woodworker, pottery, and sculptor, he enjoys working with his hands. His family taught him the value of work for what you want inside and outside the athletic arena. He demonstrates these traits daily, and his family is supportive of him, the school, and the community. His wrestling coach said, "He looks to learn from his experiences and is always seeking a different avenue to enhance his life outside of sports."

The TAC proudly awards the 2020 Clint Names Male Multi-Sport Award to Nolan Casey.
