Alvin (AJ) Johnson (Tacoma, Wash. Lincoln H.S.) is Puget Sound's recipient of the Ben Cheney Award for the Most Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year. The senior also won the award last year. During the 2019 season, Johnson broke his own school record for receiving yards in a season (1,147). He also became the first Logger in school history to reach 100 receptions in a season (102). Johnson had five games with more than 100 receiving yards during the 2019 season, including 280 receiving yards in a game against Pacific. He caught multiple touchdowns in four different games. Johnson was named to the All-Northwest Conference First Team for the second consecutive year and led the conference in yards, receptions, and receiving touchdowns. He also received an All-American selection from D3football.com for the second time. Johnson is a three-sport athlete also competing in basketball as well as track and field.
