2020 STAN NACCARATO SPORTS AND CIVIC BETTERMENT AWARD

    Ella Litterell - Volleyball
    Emerald Ridge High School

Stan Naccarato was known as "Mr. Tacoma," and he was involved in nearly everything in town. He was a two-time TAC President, saved professional baseball in Tacoma, and raised dollars needed to finance the bond issue that gave us "A Dome of our Own." He was the emcee of the Golden Gloves for 68 years, and he asked for your "oohs and aahs" at the annual 4th of July Shows for 21 years. In his honor, this year's Stan Naccarato's Sports and Civic Betterment Scholarship goes to Ella Litterell from Emerald Ridge High School. Ella is a two-time Tacoma Athletic Commission Athlete of the Year for Volleyball, and she has spent her entire high school career volunteering to teach young students the sport of volleyball.

In 2018, Ella coached Tacoma Public School elementary school students to introduce them to volleyball. Also, she coached for the RAGE Volleyball Program from 2016-2019 as a volunteer. She volunteered at the Yes Foundation in the Federal Way Middle School Clinics, and in 2016/17, she served as a coach for underprivileged youth by introducing them to volleyball. Finally, Ella organized the Dig Pink Fundraising Program at Emerald Ridge, which helped her team raise over $3000 to fund breast cancer research. She created inspirational cards that were sent to women fighting breast cancer. Ella's involvement in the ERHS Service and Leadership Club is legendary.

Litterell is a four-year varsity letter winner and has been the team captain for several years. She was the MVP for her team the past two years and was named to the Under Armour All-American Watch List during her junior season. Also, Scorebook Live called her a top 20-player in the State to watch. South Puget Sound League awarded Ella with the distinction of being 1st Team All-League, and the Tacoma News Tribune chose her as a first-team all-area player.

As a senior starter and six rotation players, Ella amassed 402 kills, 201 digs, 24 solo blocks, and 51 service aces. Ella led the Jaguars in kills and recorded a hitting percentage of 24%, and she is ranked second in the kill category for all 4A High Schools in the State. Ella played a vital role in helping Emerald Ridge finish second in the SPSL League Tournament as well as second at the West Central District Tournament this year.

Emerald Ridge's Athletic Director Jesse Kase wrote, "Ella is the foundation, rock, and glue that held the Emerald Ridge volleyball team together for several years. She has a relentless passion for volleyball and has a unique knack for guiding her team toward success. She is a dynamic leader on the court, a dependable and hard-working student, and an outstanding contributor to the positive culture in the hallways at Emerald Ridge. It is without a doubt that Ella Litterell is well-deserving of this award."

With great enthusiasm and joy, the Tacoma Athletic Commission announces Ella Litterell as the 2020 Stan Naccarato Sports and Civic Betterment Award.
