Bonney Lake High School
Andrea Bowman was born in Puyallup and has lived in Bonney Lake her entire life. She attended Emerald Hills Elementary and Lakeridge Middle School before moving on to a high school with an amazing broadcasting program. Andrea is a senior at Bonney Lake High School where she fell in love with broadcasting after taking three broadcasting classes along with a journalistic writing class. With reference from her broadcasting teacher, Shannon Carr-Cohen, she was able to job shadow the Director at Q-13 in Seattle during her summer break. This opportunity solidified her desire to pursue broadcast journalism. Two of the feature packages she has completed in her broadcasting classes have been entered for High School Emmy Awards through the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences. She has received multiple Show MVP honors from her school news productions, Panthers News Network, as well as recognition in technology from the American Association of University Women. Among these broadcasting courses Andrea has taken 9 AP/Honors classes while maintaining a 3.96 GPA. She has been involved in multiple clubs at her school including ASB, DECA, National Honors Society, and the Panthers Captain Council. This year she also had the opportunity to peer coach her school’s very first Special Olympics Soccer team. Andrea’s honors have extended outside the classroom as well. She has been a member on the varsity soccer team since her freshman year and a captain the past two years. Andrea has also been the captain for her Club soccer team since 2010. Andrea’s hard work and passion for soccer has earned her many awards including Tacoma Athletic Commission Girls Soccer Athlete of the Year (2011), Defensive MVP All-League (2011), Honorable Mention All-Area (2011), First Team All-State (2011, 2012), First Team All-League (2011, 2012), First Team All-Area (2012), and Second Team All-League (2013). Andrea will be attending the University of Montana in the fall of 2014 to pursue their nationally recognized broadcasting program. She has been awarded the Western Undergraduate Exchange Scholarship for academic merit.
