    Clint Names Multi-Sport Excellence Award
Bradley Peloquin - Gig Harbor High School

Congratulations to Bradley Peloquin for winning the Clint Names Multi-Sports Excellence Award in 2019 for his incredible accomplishments in Cross-Country and Track and Field. He is a true "Rock Star" on and off the field. His cross-country coach wrote, "Bradley is an outstanding student, athlete and especially a person who was voted both Most Valuable and more importantly Most Inspirational by his teammates. He has had to work with three different coaches during his four years at Gig Harbor and has navigated the experience with poise and patience. He is humble and yet competitive. Simply a joy!"

Bradley was undefeated until the state cross-country meet, where an injury that occurred during his warmup run limited his mobility. He still managed a 4th place finish in the state 3A championship race, as well as a 12th place, finish the following week in Boise at the Nike Regional Championship. He was ranked as high as 20th in the United States for male cross country runners this fall. He was the South Sound Conference Champion in one of the fastest times in history on the Fort Steilacoom cross country course. He was the Nike Portland Champion. Finally, last spring, he was 2nd in the 3A 3200m behind last year's Scott Names Athlete of the Year James Mwaura. Peloquin currently holds the fastest junior time in the 3200 in Gig Harbor history. That says a lot with the rich tradition Gig Harbor has with distance running.

The Tacoma News Tribune wrote recently, "Peloquin's time of 9 minutes, 4.91 seconds in the 3,200-meters probably would have won him the title most years. But not that last year, when Lincoln's James Mwaura clocked in at 8:46.87 -- one of the fastest times in the entire country in 2018. However, now that Mwaura is graduated, Peloquin is the favorite in the 3,200 and a contender in the 1,600, although the mile will be a tougher challenge for Peloquin, who tends to favor longer distances."
Currently, Peloquin has the fastest 1500 meters in the state, third fastest 1600 meters, and the second fastest 3200 meters behind only Joe Waskom from Mt. Si by less than a second. Gig Harbor distance coach Patty Ley said, "He's a terrific athlete. We're just working on his finishing speed, and Bradley is a lot faster than he's been. So just kind of releasing that little piece to him. He's in a great place."
