Dennis Mullens played and officiated in all the major high school and recreational sports, and his football officiating career dates to the late-1960s and Little League games on Saturday mornings. He joined the Western Washington Football Officials Association in 1980, served on the board from 1999-2002 and was president in 2010. Among the many highlights was refereeing the 2002 4A State Final in the Tacoma Dome. Starting in 1995 Dennis trained new and veteran football officials and he also supervised Pierce County Parks and Recreation’s Little League football program for 10 years during the 1980s and 1990s. Dating to the mid-1980s he officiated men’s and women’s semi-pro football, including the 1986 West Coast Championship and numerous Pacific Northwest championship and all-star games in Washington and Oregon. Dennis was an official for the first Russia versus U.S. football game at the Tacoma Dome in 1990. He has received numerous honors for his involvement in football including the WOA Meritorious Service Award in 1996 and the Mike Burton Award in 2008.
