The Tacoma Athletic Commission is honored to present the 2023–2024 Clint Names Female Multisport Athlete Award to Sara Smith, a senior at Eatonville High School. With a GPA of 3.72, Sara is not only an outstanding athlete but also an exemplary student. Her dedication, resilience, and leadership both on and off the field make her a true inspiration.
Sara embodies the saying, "The comeback is always greater than the setback." Overcoming a meniscus and ACL reconstruction, she returned stronger and more focused, ready to lead her teams with renewed energy. Her physical and emotional strength, coupled with her unwavering commitment to her teammates, has made her a standout in multiple sports.
A three-sport varsity letter winner every year, Sara has assembled an impressive 11 letters throughout her high school career. She has been a four-year scholar-athlete and has earned a place on the Dean’s List through the Running Start program for two years. Additionally, she is a proud member of the Honor Society.
In fastpitch softball, Sara's achievements are remarkable. As a four-year letter winner, she has been elected team captain for two years and was named the 2024 All-League MVP Offensive Player of the Year. Her 2024 stats are exceptional, boasting a .672 batting average, a 1.141 slugging percentage, 41 RBIs, and six home runs in just 20 games. In 2022, she was recognized as the 1st Team All-League Pitcher of the Year, and in 2021, she earned an honorable mention. Sara also leads her club softball team as captain and has received national invites.
Sara's talents extend beyond the softball field. In basketball, she has been a four-year letter winner, earning 2nd Team All-League honors in 2024, and honorable mentions in both 2023 and 2022. In soccer, she earned three varsity letters despite missing her senior year due to injury. Additionally, she is a standout in weightlifting, holding the top spot on the high school girls' leaderboard in both bench press and power clean. As a certified lifeguard and swim instructor, Sara demonstrates her versatility and commitment to physical fitness.
Sara's leadership extends to her volunteer work as well. Throughout her high school career, she has coached and served as a pitching coach for youth fastpitch programs and umpired for various leagues. Even while injured her senior year, she contributed to the middle school fastpitch program. Her dedication to helping her teammates improve was evident as she frequently stayed after practice to provide extra reps and guidance.
