The Tacoma Athletic Commission proudly awards the 2023–2024 Clint Names Multisport Athlete Award to Rocco Koch, a distinguished senior at Curtis High School. Rocco exemplifies the spirit of a true multi-sport athlete, demonstrating exceptional skill, leadership, and dedication both on and off the field.
Rocco has been a four-year starter quarterback for Curtis High School, leaving an indelible mark on the program. His coach reflects, "Rocco has been a joy to coach, ranking among the most memorable athletes I’ve worked with over the past 30 years." During his senior year, Rocco was named the SPSL Co-Most Valuable Player for the 2023 season. He broke records by accounting for 56 touchdowns, bringing his career total to an impressive 121 touchdowns. Leading the SPSL in rushing and total yards. Rocco's performance on the field has been nothing short of extraordinary. As a multi-year captain, he has also dedicated his time to coaching youth football with the U.P. VIKS, showcasing his commitment to the sport and community.
In addition to his football skills, Rocco has been a standout in lacrosse. As a four-year varsity player, Rocco earned All-Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore, advanced to All-Conference 1st Team as a junior, and achieved All-Conference 1st Team middle in his senior year. Averaging 2.71 points per game, he became the highest-producing middle on the team. Known for his defensive skills, Rocco is one of the most feared defensive middles in the league. His infectious spirit, competitiveness, and energy elevate his team's practice sessions and overall performance.
Rocco’s commitment to multiple sports is a testament to his exceptional athleticism. Throughout his high school career, he has been a nine-time varsity athlete, participating in football, lacrosse, and basketball. His freshman and sophomore years saw him excel in both varsity football and lacrosse, leading his teams to the 4A State Quarter Finals. By his junior year, he added basketball to his repertoire, contributing to his team's state championship win, while also leading the lacrosse team to the 4A State Semi-Finals. As a senior, he continues to shine in football and lacrosse.
Rocco’s athletic future is bright, as he will be playing Division 1 NCAA Football in college. Despite football being his primary focus, his talent in lacrosse is undeniable, and he could have easily earned a Division 1 scholarship for lacrosse at any top school in the country. Beyond his athletic achievements, Rocco has made significant contributions to his community, coaching youth football with the U.P. VIKS and serving as a role model for younger players.
