This year, Andrew Putnam concludes one of the greatest careers ever compiled by a Pepperdine University golfer. That four-year career will end at the NCAA Championships (scheduled for May 31-June 5) after Putnam helped the Waves to a fourth-place tie at the regional tournament, earning the team its first national tournament berth since 2006
Throughout his senior season, Andrew has been Pepperdine's top player with two tournament wins, five Top-10 tournament finishes, and eight Top-20 finishes. He has averaged a team-low 71.83 strokes per round, and also leads the Waves with 14 sub-par rounds through the regional tournament.
Andrew opened his senior campaign last September by helping Pepperdine win the Kikkor Golf Husky Invitational hosted by the University of Washington at Washington National Golf Club. Putnam shot six-under-par golf over the three rounds to finish second as an individual. He tied for medalist honors with a four-under for three rounds at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate hosted by University of New Mexico in early October, and his other tournament win this season came in early February when he carded a seven-under-par for three rounds at the Arizona Intercollegiate.
Recently, Andrew was named to the All-West Coast Conference first team for the fourth consecutive season. Leading into this season, the Tacoma native had twice earned All-America honors (third team as a freshman, honorable mention as a sophomore) in addition to three times taking all-region recognition. Through three seasons, he ranked third on the Pepperdine career stroke average list at 72.77, and he ranked fourth with 28 top-20 tournament finishes. As a result of his outstanding senior year, Andrew has lowered his stroke average, in addition to adding to his tournament win, Top-10 and Top-20 finish numbers.
Andrew was a three-time state champion while leading Life Christian Academy to three state championships. Following his senior season, he was named the 2007 Tacoma Male Athlete of the Year, AJGA second team All-American, and Rolex All-American.
