Austin Seferian-Jenkins put together one of the most prolific freshman seasons in the history of the University of Washington football program in 2011 and is on pace to become the best tight end in team history. A two-time Associated Press all-state performer at Gig Harbor High School, Seferian-Jenkins earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors after starting 10 games and appearing in all 13 for the Huskies last season.
The 6-6 258-lb. Seferian-Jenkins lived up to his hype as one of the state’s top recruits with an outstanding first season at UW. His 538 receiving yards ranks second in UW history for a true freshman at any position, and it is the third-highest tight end mark for any class. His 41 receptions ranked sixth for a tight end, and his six touchdown grabs tied for the fourth-most by a tight end.
After catching one pass for 10 yards in the 2011 season opener, Seferian-Jenkins caught three passes for a season-best 91 yards and a touchdown against Hawaii. He followed that up with 52 yards and two scores on four receptions against California and 40 yards on six catches with two touchdowns against Oregon State. He caught five passes for 77 yards against Stanford, three for 32 yards against Utah, four for 48 yards against USC and four for 62 in the Apple Cup win over Washington State. He concluded the season with five receptions for 59 yards against Baylor in the Alamo Bowl.
Seferian-Jenkins won the Travis Spring Most Outstanding Freshman Award at the UW postseason banquet and joined the Huskies men’s basketball team in January following the conclusion of the football season. He appeared in 17 games for the Pac-12 champion UW basketball team, averaging 7.2 minutes per game.
