Dave Williams graduated from the United States Military Academy and served in the Army for 25 years, retiring in 2000 as a lieutenant colonel. While serving in the military, he volunteered as a coach in youth football and baseball and after retirement continued to coach in volunteer capacity. He was hired as an assistant football coach at Lincoln High School and subsequently has coached in Bethel and Puyallup school districts.

He joined the Western Baseball Umpires Association in 2004 and is a member of the Executive Board and serves as Head Trainer for Apprentice Umpires.

Umpiring highlights include 2A District baseball games, 2007; 4A Regional, 2008; 2A Final, 2009; 4A District, 2010; 2A District, 2011; 3A Regional, 2012; 3A District, 2013; and District, 2014.
